About this list

The tournament year around Copenhagen is built from club series on the FIDE rating list. Clubs name them after the season, so the calendar fills with Foraar (spring), Sensommer (late summer), Efteraar (autumn) and Juleskak (Christmas chess) events at ØBRO, Amager, Valby, Brønshøj, Herlev, BMS in Ballerup and Hvidovre, each played over several rounds a week apart. Club championships such as Amagermesterskabet, Herlev-Mesterskabet and the Brønshøj and Frederiksberg championships keep the same rhythm.

Københavns Skak Union holds the Copenhagen championship over a weekend, a day tournament and the team league that brings its clubs together from autumn to March. The Copenhagen Chess Challenge has a grandmaster group in summer, the ATINA Open and the Danish women's championship have been played in the city, and the junior events, from the union's Junior Grand Prix to a school-chess open at Frederiksberg town hall, have a list of their own.
